A first draft of an upcoming Installation that will
presented in its entirety (as soon as I get it right).
Redhat is a pop-up book that has multiple layers of
meaning, all of which address the cautionary tale of Red
Hat— a tale about the dangers of child predators. Multiple
layers are needed to communicate this message- the tale
itself, visual representation, and sub[text].
I used the actual words of convicted pedophile John Clark
Donahue (former Artistic Director of the Children's Theater
Company) to emphasize and make real the wolf/orgre of the
tale.
All supplemental text was taken from depositions and court
documents of John Clark Donahue as well as interviews with
17 of his former victims.
The final piece will be printed on canvas 12’ x 6’ and hung
so as to surround the reader. A video componant is also
currently being developed.
